Two people were killed and two were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Calgary on Monday, according to police.
Officers responded to a head-on collision between a pickup truck and sedan at James Mckevitt Road S.W. and Spruce Meadows Trail S.W. after 6:30 p.m.
Two car passengers — a man and a woman, both seniors — were pronounced dead at the scene, EMS said.
Because of the car driver’s injuries and the time it took to get her out, EMS said the rare call was made to have STARS Air Ambulance respond inside city limits. The woman in her 30s was airlifted to hospital in critical, potentially life-threatening condition, EMS said.
The truck driver, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, EMS said.
Police said both directions of Spruce Meadows Trail were shut down as they investigated.
