BerlinTime is over with the Polar Bear for Leon Gawanke. NHL club Winnipeg Jets have ordered the 21-year-old defender to return to Canada. The two clubs agreed to a loan in September, as it was fully open at the time when the North American Professional League would resume its season. Part of that deal was that Gavke would return as soon as the AHL or NHL resumed game.
Gavke is now attending the Manitoba Moose training camp from the AHL, with the season starting February 5. Last season, Gawanke scored four goals and 22 assists in 48 matches for the club. “I am very grateful to the polar bears that I have been able to train and play here in the last few months. I was born here and it was always my childhood dream to play for Eyesbrain in Delhi, ”Gavanke said when he said goodbye.
Eric Mick comes from Waveser
As a replacement, Eric Mick will return to the EHC team with immediate effect. The 20-year-old made his appearance in the first match against Bremerwein this season. Since then, he has been with his partner, Logitzer Futches.
“I’m glad Leon was in Berlin. I hoped he could play for the Polar Bears throughout the season. But it was clear that he would move back to Canada when the season resumed in North America,” Sports Director Stephen Richter said. “Over the last few months you have seen that Leon is one of Germany’s top defenders. He has excellent offensive skills and I believe he has what it takes to realize his dream of the NHL.”
