Eisbären Berlin are again stepping up their offensive. The Berlin team signs Zach Boychuk for the center position. Canada was recently under contract with HC Friborg-Goteron in the Swiss National League.

“Zach Boychuk is a good two-way striker who is very involved in the attack. He is an internationally experienced center who will continue to improve us in this situation, ”said Isabren Sports Director Stephen Richer explaining the attacker’s liability.

The 31-year-old was drafted from the National Hockey League (NHL) in 2008 in the first round by Carolina Hurricanes in 14th place and made his debut for the Hurricanes in the world’s strongest ice hockey league this year. Boychuk lived in North America until the 2015/16 season. For the Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Pinguins and Nashville Predators, he played 127 times in the NHL and scored 12 goals and 18 assists. There are also eight playoff games in which he provided 3 assists. In the American Hockey League (AHL), he stepped on the ice 407 times and appeared in 141 hits and 176 performers. In 29 AHL playoff games, he scored 8 goals and 12 assists. For the 2016/17 season, the left-hander moved to the Coptinal Hockey League (KHL) and played a total of 95 games (20 goals, 24 assists) for Sibir Novosibirsk, HC Sloven Bratislava and Severstal Cherepovets.

In November 2018 he left the KHL and joined SC Bern from the Swiss National League, with whom he celebrated winning the 2019 Swiss Championship. For the Bernese, the Canadians completed 22 main round games (5 goals, 6 assist) and 8 games (3 assist) in the playoffs. He also stayed in the top Swiss league for the last 2019/20 season and wore the HC Friborg-Götteron jersey. Boyochuk provided 3 goals and 10 assists in 15 matches for the longest serving club in the National League.

Won Gold Medal twice at U20 World Cup with his home country Boyuk. He also wore a jersey with the Maple Leafs for the last three seasons in the Spengler Cup. He won this traditional tournament with Team Canada in 2017 and 2019 and in 2018 he was selected for the Spengler Cup All-Star Team.

Zach Boychuk will receive a contract by the end of the 2020/21 season and will wear an 89 number shirt. With this new commitment, Eisbären Berlin has so far issued eight foreign licenses and three more are available. Out of a total of 11 license holders, 9 per game can be listed on the game report sheet at the same time and thus PENNY DEL can be used in competitive games.
