WhatsApp is one of the most popular messenger services in the world. WhatsApp has many users, especially on smartphones, but also WhatsApp Web for browsers and App version for laptops, WhatsApp desktops. There is now an important update for the latter: In the future, voice and video calls should also be possible in desktop apps. This means that a popular function of the smartphone version is also available for computers.
So you can call from whatsapp desktop in future
For those with Update To be able to use the upcoming voice and video telephony function on a computer, you need the WhatsApp desktop app.
- If you do not already have one, download and install WhatsApp Desktop for Windows or MacOS.
- Then open the application, now you should see a QR code.
- Open WhatsApp on your smartphone and go to the menu (three dots) in the upper right corner of the chat overview.
- Select the sub-item “WhatsApp Web” and scan the QR code on your desktop with your mobile phone.
You can also synchronize with your smartphone instead of scanning with Biometric authentication to make. All that is required is that your mobile phone has an appropriate fingerprint sensor or Face ID camera.
If you have the current version of WhatsApp desktop, you will be able to see the call and camera icons in the top right corner of the targeted chat history – exactly like the smartphone app. With one click you initiate a call with or without video. With the mobile phone version, the function is encrypted end-to-end so that communication is secure.
Now the new function for single chat only
The new call function is initially available only in two-way chat. Although the facility for group chat is not planned in the near future, it is not excluded for the future. WhatsApp states: “We start with a personalized call in the WhatsApp desktop app to ensure that we can provide you with a reliable, high-quality experience. We will continue to expand this function and also integrate voice and video calls to groups in the future. “Even smartphone users can only make 1: 1 calls on WhatsApp. The integration into group chat took place last year. Eight users can now call each other there.
The update is currently being rolled out worldwide for Windows and MacOS with the new function.
