British citizen Nazneen Zagari-Ratcliffe is allowed to leave Iran Turn around again. Her ankle sprains have been removed, but she is expecting another trial for campaigning against the Iranian regime next week, her lawyer Hodchat Karamani told the ISNA news agency on Sunday.
British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab demanded that the 42-year-old should be allowed to travel home immediately to his family in Great Britain. “We welcome the removal of the ankles of Nazneen Zagari-Ratcliffe, but the way Iran continues to treat them is unbearable.” British MP Tulip Siddiq, whose constituency Zaghari-Ratcliffe lives in, said the 42-year-old would first visit his parents in southern Iran.
The case created a diplomatic crisis
The imprisonment of Zagahri-Ratcliffe, who also has Iranian citizenship, created a diplomatic crisis between Iran and Great Britain in recent years. Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested in 2016 after visiting her parents.
The 42-year-old was charged with espionage, among other things. The project manager of the Thomson Reuters Foundation is said to have tried with a foreign network to overthrow the regime in Iran. Although the British woman denied all charges against herself, she was sentenced to five years in prison by a revolutionary court.
