Secret Change? No more blue ticks for voice messages

The popular chat app has undergone a surprising change that did not last long. But what is behind this and whether it will stay that way is unclear.

Messenger service WhatsApp Has apparently eliminated the automatic reading confirmation for silently, silently and silently voice messages. This is stated by the “Techbook” page based on its comments.

Previously, two blue ticks next to a voice message that were sent automatically indicated that the message had arrived and was heard. Read receipts for text messages or images are also available – however, it can be deactivated in the data protection settings on the recipient’s side. If you want to avoid a telltale tick on a voice message, you have to use a trick: Which we describe here.

Undeclared adjustment

This has now changed, as seen by the authors of “Techbook”. Accordingly, ticks now automatically turn blue as soon as a voice message is heard – but only if both the sender and the recipient have typically activated the read confirmation.

According to “Techbook”, the change was introduced on March 11, without prior notice. It is unclear whether this is a permanent adjustment or just a test.

To activate or deactivate a read receipt, proceed as follows:

  1. At the top right, tap on the three vertical dots to open “Settings”.
  2. Now tap on “Account”.
  3. It continues with “data security”.
  4. Here you can now move the slider under “Read Receipt”.

However, deactivating the reading receipt means that you can no longer detect whether the message the other person saw, read or heard was sent. And the same rules now apply to text and voice messages. This is only logical, thinks “Techbook”.
