As the youngest of 750 players in the NHL, Stutzley has to compete with players who were in the league before he was born. Thornton played his first game in the National Hockey League on October 8, 1997 – three years, three months and seven days before Stotzell’s birth.

Despite his young age and inexperience, the German teenager got a very special job. “I was able to learn an incredible amount, so maybe I would have gone one step further if I had played against the Youngsters another year,” Schutzel said.

One step ahead with the youth of the world

He made his North American debut last December when he was the captain of Germany at the Junior World Championship in Edmonton. They would be thrilled by what the Senators and fan management saw: With five goals and five assists, Stostel was named the tournament’s best striker when he led Germany to the quarter-finals for the first time in world youth history.
