Hong Kong Huawei has been involved in extradition proceedings against its chief financial officer Meng Wenzhou HSBC The release of documents was agreed upon. The Chinese manufacturer of mobile communication devices announced this on Monday. He hopes the documents will prevent Meng stranded in Canada from being extradited to the United States.
The US is seeking the extradition of Meng, who was arrested on charges of bank fraud in 2018, and an alleged violation of sanctions against Iran. The US accused Huawei of selling equipment to Iran with the help of a Hong Kong company called Skycom. According to US allegations, Meng committed fraud by misleading major bank HSBC about his business in Iran.
At a court hearing in Hong Kong on Monday, the judge approved the document release agreement. “In relation to the Hong Kong process, a document submission agreement has been reached with HSBC,” Huawei announced. The details of the agreement and the scope of the documents remained unclear. Meng’s team wanted internal compliance documents for Huawei and Skycom.
At the extradition trial in Canada, Meng’s lawyers argued that the case did not come under US jurisdiction.
