Canada’s Kerry Einarsen and Brad Gushyu defeated Spain 8: 6 in their opening game of the World Mixed Double Curling Championship on Monday.
Einerson from Camp Morton, OR. And Gushu of St. John’s, NL, ended a four-point deficit and stole two points at the eighth end to claim wins over Ohane Otgei and Mikel Yunue.
“I struggled a little early to explore some trails, and that’s when I first got them and started taking my first shot, which probably made Brad’s shots a little easier,” Einerson said.
Canada will have to stay in the top seven to qualify for the mixed doubles discipline at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
“If we play the way we can play then we have to be fine,” Gushu said. “It does everything just to make sure that we play to the best of our ability. A little scary start, but I felt the last six endings played as we could and as we played in our Canadian Championship. “

Tuesday is a two-game day at the Canadian Curl Aberdeen facility.
First there is a game against the Germans Pia-Lisa Schoell and Klaudius Harsch, followed by a match against the Hungarian Dorottya Palancsa and Zolt Kiss.
Canada is one of 20 teams participating in the competition. Gushyu and Einarsen are trying to become the first Canadian team to win gold in the 13-year history of the event.
The competition runs until Sunday.
