Germany, Canada and Latvia are now tied

There were no problems worth mentioning in Switzerland Group A Along the bottom of Belarus. “Easgenausen” won the game 6–0 (2–0, 2–0, 2–0). Joel Vermin (2), Christoph Bertsky, Sven Andrigato, Gregory Hoffman and Fabrice Herzog won. Goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni can expect a shutout.

In the evening, Sweden won an extremely important 3–1 (0–1, 1–0, 2–0) win against Slovakia in the quarter-final battle. The High Titras team started through Peter Sehlrich shortly before the first break, but Marcus Sorensen, Victor Olofsson and Issac Lundestrom turned the game around. Sweden are now in fourth place with nine points, but the Czech Republic are only one point behind with two games to go. The group is led by a tied trio of Switzerland (12 points, 6 games), Russian Olympic Committee (5 games) and Slovakia (6 games).

In Group b Canada drew against Germany at 7: 1 (4: 0, 2: 1, 1: 0) points against Italy, but had a worse goal difference and played one more game. The scorers for the Maple Leafs were Andrew Mangiapen (2), Cole Perfetti, Troy Stecher, Adam Heinrich, Maxim Komtois and Brandon Pirie. Angelo Micheli scored the Italian consolation goal.

In the duel between Finland and host Latvia, the world champions won 3: 2 (1: 1, 1: 0, 0: 1, 1: 0) with a goal from Anton Lundell four seconds before the end of extra time. A German approach was the key goal – because if Latvia had got the second point, the home side would have overtaken Germany in the table. Other goals were scored by Saku Mypanelanen and Iro Pakarinen for Finland and two Martins Dzierkels for Latvia.

So it remains extremely exciting in this group: Finland (13 points) and USA (12, 5 games each) are separated slightly, with Kazakhstan (10, 6 games) finishing third. In fourth place Germany (9 points, 5 games) is ahead of the trio with equal points ahead of Canada and Latvia (both 6 games). Canada will play their final group match against Finland; Germany will play against the USA on Monday and against Latvia at the end of the group stage on Tuesday.
