The message arrives Tuesday: Canadian Marie-Alex Belanger completes the 21/22 squad, according to a press release from Sm’Aesch Pfeffingen. The 28-year-old attacker is on his way to Switzerland after working in France and Turkey. Sm’Aesch head coach Andy Vollmer can be quoted in the release as follows: “With her experience and positive attitude, Marie-Alex will be a key player for us.”

The next season should also be very promising. After the coronavirus cancellation in 2020 and out of quarantine in 2021, Sm’Aesch Pfeffingen is finally looking to celebrate in 2022 for the first championship title in club history before long. Co-President Laura Tschopp is already looking forward to the season starting in October: “We have a promising mix of experienced and ambitious players. And we can look forward to great volleyball in Ashes,” she says.

Earlier in August the European Championships is on the agenda. For Switzerland, Madalena Mater, Melin Pierret and Sara van Rooij play in Croatia against Italy, Belarus, Estonia, Slovakia and Hungary. Wilma Andersson will represent Swedish Colours.
