that was fast!

The lawn tournament in Halle/Westphalia already called the second round: Roger out!

Against Felix Auger-Aliassim (20), tennis superstar Roger Federer (39) has to return home unusually early. Despite winning the first set, the maestro lost to Canada’s top talent (number 21 in the world) 6:4, 3:6, 2:6. The match lasted 1:44 hours on Center Court.

The Swiss, looking increasingly tired towards the end of the match, had imagined it differently. The defending champion and Halle record winner (10 titles) really wanted to collect some match practice before Wimbledon (starting on 28 June) to prepare well for the Grand Slam. Nothing will happen now. He missed the quarter-finals in Halle for the first time.

Auger-Aliassim played a cheeky role, used unusually large mistakes made by Federer (he gave 15 break opportunities) and could count on his strong serve (13 aces, Federer 5). In the end, Auger-Aliassim scored 24 points more than Federer – Welton!

Canadian Aftermath: “It’s a great win and a great moment for me.”

His next opponent in the quarterfinals: Ami Marcos Giron (27 / No. 75 in the world). He surprisingly knocked out Germany’s number two, Jan-Lenard Struff (31) – although the DTB professional served 16 aces.

Same course of play with Federer: Struff got the first set first, only then the game was out of hand. In the end there was a 7:6 (7:1), 3:6, 4:6. The breaking point was the breakball. While Giron converted two out of five, Struff was unable to use any despite four chances.

This is the first quarterfinal participation in the 500 tournament for Giron.
