Halle/Westphalia (DPA) – Lady Rublejou or Ugo Humbert may opt to replace Roger Federer at the lawn tennis tournament in Halle, Westphalia.
Two years after winning a tenth title in the Hall of Top Stars, Russian top ten players and French outsiders are taking part in a surprise final. Rublev, who was in fourth place, won in the semi-final against Georgian Nikolai Basilashvili 6:1, 3:6, 6:3. Ansett Humbert then wrestled Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliasim in 6:4, 3:6, 7:6 (7:5).

There he missed the first two match points at 5:4 before using up his fifth match point after 2:33 hours in the tie-break. Last week in Stuttgart, 22-year-old Humbert lost to eventual finalist Auger-Aliassim.

Rublev, who was a year older than him, clearly dominated the semi-final against Basilashvili. Basilashvili made the game more balanced after he treated his right foot at 1:5 in the first set. World number 7 Rublev is the favorite in the final. Apart from him, all the seeded players were soon out.
In the quarter-finals, the Russian was too strong for Philipp Kollschreiber as the last German participant. German number one Alexander Zverev lost against Humbert in the round of 16. Halle record winner Federer was removed as a surprise against Auger-Aliassim and had to accept a blow in preparation for Wimbledon.
