An engine failure forces a Boeing machine to make an emergency landing. The cargo plane lands on the water from Hawaii. The crew can be saved, but one of the pilots is seriously injured.

A Boeing 737 cargo plane crashed off the coast of Hawaii. The US Coast Guard rescued both crew members, the US Aviation Authority (FAA) said. The pilots reported an engine failure and tried to return to Honolulu. However, they were forced to land the Transair plane on the water at around 2:30. “The FAA and the US Transportation Safety Administration (NTSB) are investigating the incident.”

A Coast Guard spokesman told CNN that crew members were rescued by Coast Guard and fire department helicopters. A Coast Guard ship was also in use. According to the spokesman, two crew members were taken to a hospital in Honolulu for treatment.

One of the pilots, 58, is in intensive care with life-threatening injuries, according to a report from local news site Hawaii News Now. The second pilot, aged 50, suffered a head injury and multiple cuts. Hawaii News Now reported that the machine had sunk. The remains will be recovered. TransAir aircraft typically transport cargo between the main Hawaiian islands and travel between Honolulu on the island of Oahu and Kahului on Maui, according to the FlightAware website.

According to investigators, the plane is a Boeing 737 Classic at least 33 years old, not a 737 MAX. The Boeing 737 MAX made headlines with two crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia in 2018 and 2019 with a total of 346 deaths. In March 2019, a worldwide flight ban was imposed on the US aircraft maker’s previous bestseller, which was only lifted at the end of 2020.
