Three Germans are allowed to play in the second-highest class at Wimbledon today – others still have to complete or finish their games that were canceled the day before. Two successive Wimbledon winners then intervene.

LONDON – Rain or shine: Court No. 1 becomes the Germans’ place on the second day of Wimbledon. From 2 pm onwards, Alexander Zverev, Angelique Kerber and Jan-Lenard Struff will play their first matches there. If the tennis weather is bad, the roof is closed.

Old Swiss champion Roger Federer’s first appearance against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino is also eagerly awaited. Like Federer, the 39-year-old longtime world number one Serena Williams of the United States will again meet Alexandra Sasnovitch of Belarus on center court.

German Games:

Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) – Talon Grixpour (Netherlands): Zverev hasn’t made it to the second week on the Wimbledon pitch so far. For the world number six player, more than the third round has not been possible so far. Last year’s US Open finalists are the clear favorites against qualifiers Grixpur.

Angelique Kerber (Kiel) – Nina Stojanovic (Serbia): Kerber celebrated her first tournament win since her 2018 Wimbledon win at Bad Homburg over the weekend. The 33-year-old was similarly seen resting. The left-hander knows how lawn tennis works and favors the 24-year-old, the world number 86.

Jan-Lenard Struff (Warstein) – Daniil Medvedeau (Russia): Struff has the toughest job with a duel against the number two in the world. However: recently in Halle they beat the Russians on the grass and celebrated their first victory. With the tournament victory over Mallorca, Medvedev then gained a lot of confidence.

Andrea Petkovic (Darmstadt) – Jasmine Paolini (Italy): Turf was never Andrea Petkovic’s best surface, third-round Wimbledon’s best result. The 33-year-old is currently ranked only 130th in the world and is 42 places behind Paolini. Petkovic made the last sixteen at Bad Homburg.

Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg) – Denis Shapovalov (Canada): The game was washed out on Monday. Kolschreiber, 37, will compete for the 16th time at Wimbledon, where he reached the quarter-finals in 2012. Tenth seed Shapovalov only made it to the second round in London.

Mona Barthel (Neumünster) – Zhu Lin (China): Mona Barthel should also play on Monday. The 30-year-old, who is currently ranked 190th in the world, has never made more than two rounds at Wimbledon. The 30-year-old, who was once about to break into the top 20, beat Zhu twice.

Oscar OTTE (Cologne) against France’s Arthur Rinderknecht and Daniel Masur (Munich) against South Korean Kwon Soon Woo have their games to finish on Monday. At the time of the interruption due to darkness, Ote was 9:9 in the fifth set, with Masoor winning the first round 7:6 (7:2).
