TOKYO (AP) – German beach volleyball players Karla Borger and Julia Sude have also lost their second Olympic Games and are under a lot of pressure ahead of the final group game.

Stuttgart lost 0-2 on Monday (17:21, 14:21) to world champions Sara Pawan and Melissa Humana-Paredes of Canada. The start was 1:2 against European champions Joanna Heydrich and Anouk Verge-Depre from Switzerland. To avoid the end of the Olympic tournament, Borger/Süd have to win their last game in a tough Group A match against Dutch women Katja Stamm and Raisa Schu on Thursday (8:00 a.m. CEST).

In each group, the two best teams go straight to the Round of 16, plus the two best thirds in the group. The other four thirds of the group play for the remaining two places. Last group drop out.

Contrary to the start, Borger/Sood started well this time and took a two-point lead at 13:11 in the first set. After a tight ball, which resulted in 15:14 instead of 16:13, the Canadian got into the match better and got the first set. In the second round, the world champion acted more confidently and received a three-point buffer at 6:3, which meanwhile increased to seven points and was enough to defend against all attacks by the German pair.
