Soccer Women: Canadians Win Gold
Canadian female footballer is the first ever Olympic champion. In the final, the North Americans defeated Sweden 3–2 in a penalty shootout. Julia Grosso won the deciding penalty. Sweden’s Caroline Seger had earlier missed a match point. It was 1–1 after 120 minutes and goals from Stina Blackstanius and Jesse Fleming (penalty). Sweden won silver and Canada bronze in the German Olympic gold medal five years ago.
Country Hockey Women: Netherlands back on throne
Following their Olympic victories in 2008 and 2012, land hockey players from the Netherlands lost the final to Great Britain in Rio in 2016. Five years later, he is back on the throne. The Europeans won 3–1 against Argentina in the final. After winning the third silver medal, Argentina will have to wait for their first women’s title. In 2012, “Pumas” had already lost the Olympic final against the Netherlands. The bronze in Tokyo went to Great Britain.
Volleyball women: USA and Brazil in final
Volleyball players from USA and Brazil will play the Olympic final on Sunday. After all the finalists at the Rio Games, the Americans beat Serbia in the semi-finals with 25:19, 25:15, 25:23. The Brazilian defeated South Korea by 25:16, 25:16, 25:16. The best scorers of the final were Andrea Drew (USA) and Fernanda Rodrigues, with 17 points each.
Handball Women: Final again France-ROC
Handball players from France and Russia are in the Olympic final. Grace Zadi’s 7 goals helped France beat Sweden 29:27. The Russians won against Norway with 27:26. The best thrower of Eastern Europeans was Anna Vazachireva with 9 hits. The two teams met five years ago in Rio. At that time Russian women dominated.
Water polo men: first medal for Greece
Greek water polo players have reached the final for the first time and thus certainly the first Olympic precious metal in their history. The Greeks beat Hungary 9:6 in the semi-finals six and a half minutes before the end of the game, they were still 5:5. In the final, Helens will face Serbia, who beat Spain 10:9 with a free throw goal 26 seconds before the end.
