FCB professional Alfonso Davies erupted with madness after Canadian football players won an Olympic gold medal. And for a reason.

Munich / Yokohama – In the final of the women’s tournament at the Olympic Games in Japan, there was a real drama, the decision was made only in the penalty shoot-out. At the end of an emotional penalty shootout, the Canadians erupted with joy, while Sweden failed dramatically. Canadian Bayern professional Alfonso Davies reacted quickly to his compatriot’s victory – also for personal reasons.

Sweden took the first lead in the gold medal final, after 34 minutes for the Scandinavians scoring a goal by Stina Blakstenius. In the second half, Canada equalized with a penalty from Jesse Fleming, and the score was 1–1 by the end of regular time. The expansion was to come, but brought no more hits.

So it went into a penalty shootout, in which it initially didn’t look good for the Canadians, who missed three of their first four penalties. Nevertheless, it was 2–2 after every five shots, the decision in the jump-off. First the Swede delivered Joanna Anderson, then Julia Angela Grosso to turn the final 911 into a 3-2 victory – and a gold medal. After two bronze medals, it was the biggest ever success in Canadian football history.

Bayern defender Alfonso Davies had every reason to be happy, as his girlfriend Jordan Huitema was among the Olympic champions. The Paris Saint-Germain player came on the 86th minute and was part of his team’s success. However, the striker did not take a penalty and saw a thrilling finish from the center line. After a decisive penalty kick by his teammate Grosso, the joy knew no bounds.

The gold medal was also celebrated in Munich. The last injured Bayern professional was overjoyed on Instagram, congratulating the Canadians in his story. “Gold medal to the Canadian team – congratulations on the gold medal!” The happy 20-year-old said after the game and also filmed her partner handing out medals in her story.

The Canadian is feeling overjoyed and proud of his girlfriend, perhaps even because he was unable to take part in the Gold Cup this summer – the continental championships of North and Central America – due to an injury. While training with the national team, he suffered an ankle injury in early July, and has now recovered. (AJR)
