Landsberg – Great respect for the young talent Katharina Hackelsmiller. The 16-year-old from Riverkings’ U17-DEB Div2 team has been named to the German national team for the Women’s Ice Hockey World Championships. It will take place in Calgary on August 20-31. The team is already in Canada and preparing intensively for the World Cup there.

Riverqueen Häckelsmiller now plays in the women’s Bundesliga team of ECDC Memmingen in addition to the U17 team. The in-charge of HC Landsberg, headed by junior director Michael Oswald and full-time junior coach Marcel Juhaz, were pleased with the nominations for the World Cup: “This nomination is the result of their talent and daily commitment to training. We are glad that we could probably contribute a little bit with the support of the coaches and the team.”

In addition to Hackelsmiller, other RiverKings talent is also on the road in August with various selection teams. Neale Egger of the U20 DNL3 team is currently in training camp with the U18 national team, while Anna Kindle and Annabel Seyer are preparing for the season with the U16 national team. Lauryn Schadel (U15) and Tim Hartmann (U13) are in the camps for the Bavarian squad. Of these two age groups, the country has the highest possible selection team.

Overall, HC Landsberg’s intense and sustained youth work is bearing fruit. “This means that the club is one of the 40 best clubs in Germany for young talent,” insists press spokesman Joachim Simon. And adds: “The club should be significantly higher in the rankings in the women’s field.” Former Landsberg junior players who played with the boys on the Riverkings junior teams are currently on the ice in Canada with Kathy Haeckelsmiller: goalkeeper Franziska Albal, defender Carina Strobel and striker Julia Zorn also played for HCL in the youth team.
