His fans have been anticipating this comeback for almost 40 years.
Swedish mega-band ABBA is back! On Thursday evening, two members Björn Ulvaeus (76) and Benny Andersson (74) announced a spectacular series of concerts and a new album in London. At the same time they released two new ABBA songs: “I Still Believe in You” and “Don’t Stop Me”.
When Benny and Bjorn take the stage in London, all 50 journalists present there applaud. The build was also present.
Björn says of his return to London: “We love music more than ever. It’s unbelievable that we’re still there 40 years later.”
ABBA returns to the stage – in avatars!
The large, multimedia ABBA show “Abba Voyage” is premiering on May 27, 2022 at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – the 3000-seat theater currently being built.
Four members of the band will be seen singing and dancing as avatars (3D animation) on stage. He is also accompanied by a ten-piece live orchestra. Behind the scenes 850 people were involved in making the show.
A challenge for musicians? “We wanted to do this before we died!” Bjorn adds: “The worst thing about the new show was that we had to shave off our beards.”
New album with previously unknown songs
There’s fresh music too! The band’s new album will be released on November 5. Title: “Abba Journey”. “This is the first in forty years,” Bjorn says. “It’s an hour and a half long,” Benny says. There will also be a Christmas carol.
And what about the two women in the band? Benny Agnetha (71) and Annie-Frid (75) says of the collaboration: “You can still sing. The album is finished and it was very emotional for us. So many memories came up.”
Agnetha and Annie-Frid are “such creative souls.”
When the two pop greats recall the concerts of the time, Benny says: “I never knew the words of the lyrics, I was always on earth with lyrics surrounded by countless pieces of paper.”
And what’s the best thing about ABBA? Benny quipped, “Don’t worry about the money.”
ABBA (active from 1972 to 1982) is one of the most successful bands in music history. Her best-known hits include “Mamma Mia”, “Dancing Queen” and “The Winner Takes It All”. To date, the band has sold approximately 400 million records.
