cheap electricity for crypto business

In the Canadian province of Alberta, the responsible authority has decided that two illegal gas-fired power plants used for bitcoin mining should be removed, as reported by heise.de. Joint-stock company Link Global Technologies leased two of the many untapped gas sources whose traditional operations were no longer profitable, from MAGA Energy and installed small power plants and containers with bitcoin mining hardware on site. Such gas sources, of which there are thousands in the region, are a popular source of cheap energy for bitcoin miners. – Trading bitcoins with Plus500 – that’s how it works. 72% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider carefully whether you can afford the high risk of losing your money. – The company has been mining round the clock since the summer of 2020 – which also means that the generators are in use day and night. And they make a lot of noise to the shouts of the residents. One of the plants was located near a noble residential complex in Sturgeon, whose residents especially appreciate the peace and tranquility of their settlement. Due to the mining facility’s generator and ventilation system, he suddenly found himself exposed to a lot of noise. One resident described the effect of Canada’s English-language public broadcaster CBC as follows: “It’s almost like heating up an airplane engine on the tarmac.”

Authority announces sales ban

Against LINK Global, which had made no effort to obtain a permit or certificate, the Competent Authority initially issued a provisional and now finally a final operational ban. As heise.de points out, generators of less than 10 MW may be operated for personal use in Alberta without a permit, but only on condition that they comply with noise protection regulations and do not have any negative impact on the environment. However, Link Global’s generators exceed permissible amounts at night, are a major nuisance to neighbors and burn natural gas, which causes CO2 emissions and thus harms the environment.

CEO admits company’s mistakes

Link Global CEO Stephen Jenkins took a stand with CBC, admitting his own wrongdoing: “It’s my fault”. Jenkins also admitted to the noisy: “I take full responsibility. We didn’t involve the neighbors”. The company’s settlement offer to mine bitcoins only during the day was rejected by the authority. Even the CEO’s argument about the environmental benefits of mining did not change the views of the executives. Jenkins suggested that some fallow gas sources release methane, a very powerful greenhouse gas. Since LINK Global uses only fallow gas sources and does not drill new sources, this way methane pollution can be avoided.
