Franz Rindl has lost the presidency of the World Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The new president of the IIHF is France’s Luc Tardiff, who hails from Canada and was previously the World Federation’s treasurer for several years. The 68-year-old will succeed René Fassel. The 71-year-old Swiss resigned after 27 years in office.
With 67:39 of the vote, Tarif won the final vote for the highest spot in international ice hockey on Saturday. A total of five candidates stood in the election. In the first of the four voting rounds, Rindle and Tardef were still tied with 29 votes.

Former national player Rindl may remain in office as president of the German Ice Hockey Federation for some time. However, Rindle no longer wants to run for regular election to the Presidium next year. In addition to the longtime DEB office bearer, Berthold Wippler, who was responsible for the finances, will also be leaving the company.
