Canada's Governor General opens book fair

This is his first overseas visit since his appointment as the 30th Governor General of Canada on July 26, 2021, as announced by the Frankfurt Book Fair. As the representative of Canada’s head of state (the Sovereign, currently Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II), the Governor General is a key figure in Canada’s parliamentary democracy.

From 17 to 21 October, the Governor General will pay a state visit to Berlin and Frankfurt. In Berlin, among other things, the program features meetings with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.

this year is Canada Guest of Honor Frankfurt Book Fair. Canadian program title “singular plurality – singular plural” The content focuses on, among other things, innovations in the creative industries, promoting women and youth, and rapprochement with indigenous peoples. The Canadian Literature event will be attended by a delegation of approximately 60 Canadian writers and illustrators, including eight delegation members, who will represent Canada live in Frankfurt. Members of the local delegation include Michael Krumi, Michelle Jean, Danny LaFerrire, Katherine Mawrikakis, Paul Sisekwasis, Vivek Shreya, Kim Thoy and Nancy Vo. More than 50 authors, including Margaret Atwood and Josephine Bacon, will participate in virtual events at the opening ceremony.
