Crankworx British Columbia 2021: Highlights and Beyricht

The last few weeks have been under the name Crankworx World Tour Crankworx British Columbia Among the best mountain bike resorts in British Columbia – to be more precise, Sun Peaks Resort and Silverstar Mountain Resort. In the disciplines of slalom, downhill, pump track and slopestyle – typical of the Crankworx festivals – contests and competitions were held at both venues.

At another location – Kicking Horse Mountain Resort – the CLIF Speed & Style event was scheduled to take place, which unfortunately had to be canceled due to bad weather conditions.

Emil Johansson’s winning slopestyle run – British Columbia

caught unexpectedly Emil Johansson Wins in the main event of Crankworx British Columbia in slopestyle. And the win was more than deserved, as the Swede displayed three tricks in his winning run that had never been shown before in a competition: Switch Truck to Down Whip in a Step Down, Switch Three Dub Whip and a Truck to Double Down Whip. The run earned him 95 judges’ points.

“It was an incredible feeling to bring this run down and do tricks that I’ve never shown in a competition,” Johansson said.

The Silverstar course, which was specially designed and built by Brett Reeder and Matt McDuff for this competition, had six trick features and the riders were enthusiastic.

“It was great,” said Godzik. “The features were great. It was probably the best course I’ve ever run at Crankworx.”

RockShox Pump Track Challenge

Pump Track Finals – British Columbia

The RockShox Pump Track Challenge events were fiercely contested and the riders were extremely committed. American Kielani Hines faced Australian Harriet Burbidge-Smith in the women’s final, while Niels Bensink of the Netherlands faced Canada’s Bass van Steenbergen in the men’s final.

Hines and Bensink were eventually the fastest on the pump track and were allowed to take the top spot on the podium. In the heat for third place, New Zealander Keegan Wright won the men’s match against his compatriot Tuhoto Ariki Payne, and in the women’s Wea Verbeek also won against New Zealander Robin Gooms.

Winning Downhill Run – British Columbia

Vaea Verbeeck and Jackson Frew celebrate on a high-speed downhill track at Sun Peaks. Verbeek scored a wafer-thinley victory against Gracie Hemstreet, with Hemstreet only 0.005 seconds slower.

Specialized Dual Slalom @ Sun Peaks

What’s New in Race for the Crankworx Throne?

A total of eight events took place at the Crankworx British Columbia Bike Festival. And what it looks like in the battle for the prestigious Crankworx throne after competitions in Canada and Innsbruck, which took place in June:

Bass van Steenbergen and Wea Verbeek were able to celebrate most of the 12 competition days with their strong performances. Van Steenburgen is now ahead of Jackson Frau with 663 points, who has 433 points, and Briton Joe Breeden with 375 points. In the women’s section, Verbeek with 751 points is confidently ahead of Kialani Hines, who has managed to collect 582 points so far. Third place has 574 points but is only behind Hines.

Who will ultimately be crowned King and Queen of Crankworx will not be decided until the final event of the year at Crankworx Rotorua in November. So it remains exciting!
