Electronics burns in “Simel building” in Dresden

A fire broke out in a large commercial building near Dresden’s main train station on Monday evening. No one was injured in the fire quickly extinguished in the new building on Wiener Platz, known as the “Simmel Building”, but extensive ventilation measures would take some time, as announced by the fire brigade. The fire started for an initially unknown reason in an electrical room on the third floor and spread to an upstairs room.

“As the building is still partially under construction, smoke from the fire could spread through the stairwell and up to the roof,” it said. The building has been completely evacuated as a precaution. The new building, with a supermarket, IT offices and a planned hotel, was opened only in September.
