Flood warning for rivers and streams
Flooding in parts of the province in northwest Canada prompted the inland city of Merritt to issue an evacuation order on Monday. The city asked residents to leave their homes. In the city of Abbotsford, near Vancouver, officials also ordered the evacuation of more than a hundred homes in areas prone to flooding and landslides, according to Radio Canada.
People were also asked not to use tap water. A flood warning has been issued for rivers and streams in areas from Merritt south to the United States border. Emergency centers have been set up for residents in both the cities.
Hurricane in Vancouver – ship broke loose
Ships broke loose in the storm in the port of Vancouver, were washed ashore or ran aground. Vancouver was hit by a rare tornado last week. The province of British Columbia experienced record-breaking temperatures that summer, killing more than 500 people. In addition, devastating wildfires destroyed the entire area.
