New studio set up in Canada, high investment planned

As Ubsift reports, Ubisoft Sherbrooke has been set up as a new development studio. After UBI Studios in Montreal, Quebec City and Saguenay, it is already the fourth development site from the French publisher that it is setting up in the largest Canadian province in terms of area (by the way, only French is its official language. : Hindi). In addition, Piedmont has a special effects team in the region.

In the 25 years in which Ubisoft has been busy in Quebec, with studios primarily producing series such as Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry, among other things, the workforce has grown to about 5,000 employees – that’s roughly half of all publishers. A quarter are employees around the world. There must be more: they do not want to invest about 12 million euros (17 million CAD) in three training projects to promote the next generation. Also, there are plans for a long-term investment of approximately 700 million euros (950 million CAD) to hire 1,000 more employees over the next ten years.

Sherbrooke Studio is run by Nathalie Jasmine. She joined Ubisoft in 2012 and was responsible for online services platform “Harbour” as recently as 2019. According to the press release, Ubisoft will co-develop some of Sherbrooke Group’s key franchises and help develop the latest innovations in entertainment and technology. The studio aims to bring together a multidisciplinary and diverse team composed of professionals from multiple fields, notably production management, programming, graphic design, modeling, animation and game design.
