There were many calls from fake policemen in the Geldern area

There were several calls from the wrong police officer in the Geldern area. Police urges caution and suggests what to do.

Fund On Sunday, several people in the Geldern area received calls from the wrong police officer. He pretended to be Michael Fuchs from the Criminal Investigation Department over the phone and gave information about an alleged burglary in the neighborhood.

Everyone on the call was suspicious and immediately terminated the call. It’s also good. The police advise on what to keep in mind:

Fraudsters can use Call ID spoofing to make calls to phone numbers that appear to be plausible with a quick glance at the display. The police never call 110, but criminals can use another local phone number.

If the caller identifies himself as a police officer, ask for their name and call your local police station. Ask if this person is actually with the authority and how you can contact them.

Do not give any information about your financial status or other sensitive data to unknown persons. Above all, don’t let yourself be under pressure.

Never give money or valuables to unknown persons, even emissaries or alleged employees of the police, public prosecutor’s office, court or financial institutions.

If you get any such call then immediately inform the police and relatives.
