New green space for young people in Bad Nauheim’s Goldsteinpark

IThanks to the initiative of a union and its volunteer assistants, a bird of prey facility was recently opened in Bad Nauheim’s Goldsteinpark. Now the next project is pending to further upgrade and revive the green area on the eastern side of the city. These days the so-called “free space” is encountered, along with the symbolic cornerstone ceremony. The name stands for the redesign of part of the site into a sports and meeting place for young people, which was initiated by the city in collaboration with the Youth Council and the Family Office. According to information from the Town Hall, the actual restoration work should be completed by the end of the year. The opening is planned only for spring, so that by then new green areas can be developed, as they say. Realizing this project will cost the city about 400,000 euros.

Until the concept now being implemented was established and the committees provided the necessary funding, it was a long way off from overcoming obstacles. Goldsteinpark is the largest green area in Bad Nauheim after the Spa Park, which has been neglected for a long time. This changed when the city received a bid for the 2010 State Garden Show, as Goldstein Park was included in the overall concept for the major event.

With a lot of effort, Goldstein Park was built in the city, from which the entire group of trees was cleared. The landscape gardener laid out meadows and created a place to rest. It was associated with the creation of a new network of shortest paths. Which turned Goldsteinpark into a big green area.

No more skater facilities planned

When, after the state horticulture show, the park was to be established as an attractive local recreation spot in the long run, those responsible also thought about how the needs of young people could be integrated into the plans. There is no dearth of inviting places to stay in Spa Town, but there is certainly a dearth of places suitable for young people. Above all, the Youth Advisory Board advocated special consideration of the leisure activities of the younger generation in plans for further use of Goldsteinpark. The focus was initially on the construction of a skater facility, a project also supported by committees. And there was an association with the Lions Club that wanted to make this project a reality. Finding a sponsor to finance the whole thing didn’t go as expected. This led to feuds with the city, which the Lions then felt under pressure and insufficiently supported. In the end, the Lions club withdrew, making plans for the skate park obsolete, as there was no funding from private donors earmarked by the city.

So a new concept was needed. The municipal authority responsible for youth work sat down with representatives from the Youth Council and the Family Office to make Goldsteinpark attractive as a meeting place and event space for young people. Whereby it is about sporting activity, opportunities for exchange and cultural performance in equal measure. This means that the new facility, now being built on open space in the northern part of the arena, will have a basketball court, table tennis facilities and a soccer arena, a facility in which a different type of football is played. Is. In a small area and in small groups which tend to be many children and teenagers. There is also a natural stage for musical and theatrical performances. Last but not least, seating arrangements have been made for all those who come to Goldsteinpark to get together for a few hours and exchange ideas.
