G7 summit again in Bavaria

G7 summit again in Bavaria

For the second time, Elmau Castle will be the destination of seven major industrialized countries. Federal Chancellor Scholz will preside over the summit. There are many reasons to choose a location.

The summit of the seven major western industrial countries is to be held in Schloss Elmau in Bavaria. According to its spokesman on Tuesday, the federal government is inviting heads of state and heads of government to host the meeting from June 26 to 28. During the last German G7 presidency in 2015, the federal government held the summit in the palace.

Government spokesman Stephan Hebstreit said Elmau Castle “meets all logistical and security requirements for the G7 summit location.” Bavaria would like to prepare for the host role, Prime Minister Marcus Söder said (CSU) in turn in Munich. “There is a guarantee of Bavarian security, and so we are really looking forward to the whole world coming to Bavaria.”

Chancellor Scholz to chair G7 summit

The summit will be presided over by the Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholzo ,SPD) stand. In 2017, as mayor of Hamburg, Scholz experienced the difficult security challenges of international summits in major cities: the G20 summit in Hamburg was at the time accompanied by severe riots.

The conference area of Schloss Elmau, about 1,000 meters above sea level in the Bavarian Alps, would be easier to protect from security forces than an urban conference space. In addition, it provided a “beautiful backdrop” that “made a lasting impression around the world” at the 2015 summit, noted government spokesman Stefan Hebstreit.

Germany will assume the presidency of the G7 on January 1, 2022. The group of major western industrialized countries includes Germany, the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy, Japan, and Canada. G7 countries account for about a third of global economic output. About ten percent of the world’s population resides in them.
