The Swiss celebrate as a team in the first Super-G in Bormio, but miss the podium. Beat Fuse, Stefan Rosentin and Marco Odermatt are ranked 5th, 7th and 8th.
In a race won by Norwegian Alexander Kilde, Fuse reacted strongly to his harrowing retirement the day before. After a good week of his fourth-place finish at Val Gardena, he once again confirmed that his second discipline was also improving compared to previous years.
Along with a sense of accomplishment in Val Gardena, Rogentin also gained additional confidence. The Graubünden driver followed uninterruptedly from 5th place, which equaled his best result at the World Cup.
Odermatt, on the other hand, didn’t go as planned. Nidwalden made two time-consuming mistakes, the first before a flat stretch, the second shortly before the finish, when he was only able to stop the elimination with difficulty. Gino Caviezel missed another classification as eleventh in the first ten.
Kilde was in her own class. The Norwegian secured a third consecutive Super G victory over the astonishing Austrian Rafael Hauser with a 72nd place finish. His compatriot, world champion Vincent Critchmire, came in third from last year’s winner Ryan Cochran-Siegel of the United States.
