iCloud bug haunts developers: Server connections are often unreliable

Apple has been causing trouble for users and their developers of apps with iCloud synchronization in recent weeks. These are due to an incomprehensible behavior of the iCloud server, which leads to unreliable synchronization, which users then blame on the developers.

Apple’s iCloud is currently causing issues with some apps. The error apparently lies in CloudKit, a collection of interfaces that developers can use to communicate with iCloud servers. Server connections often lead to error messages, with the error code HTTP 503 being returned repeatedly, which indicates that a service is temporarily unavailable.

However, this error pattern also disrupts synchronization, which some developers have already started to address.

Developers have trouble

The makers of the popular note-taking app Goodnotes have already come up with a workaround. Here, a connection request is simply repeated until it finally succeeds. The development team provides information about this in a support document.

Because it’s clear that annoyances about an app’s incorrectly working synchronization primarily affect its developers. In the support forums for developers, the error image discussedAs per the details, these dropouts are happening since November. The problem is made more difficult by the fact that only a small proportion of users are affected, making diagnosis difficult. Obviously, Apple itself was helpful only in a very few cases.
