What wasn’t already room: the DRK testing center, interim storage for the Kimmich gallery, polling rooms or just a hodgepodge for “crushes”. Now the former tourist information on the ground floor of the Town Hall has been upgraded – and how. Now there is a nature experience room.
Lauterbach – “It was a huge success,” said Mayor Norbert Svoboda happily. “Guests can find out more about Lauterbach here, but of course locals can too,” he explained. There is a separate entrance so that the Nature Experience Room can be used on weekends from 8am to 6pm, for example by hikers or day visitors. “We are happy with it,” said Svoboda and praised Dagmar Fischer, head of tourist information. He had the idea for a nature experience room and saw it being realized.
New Town Hall Square, a new use for tourist information
For Dagmar Fischer, the whole thing was a journey in time: “I started here 31 years ago,” she said. For a long time it was considered how space could be best used. Town Hall Square has also been redesigned, so it makes sense to use former tourist information for other purposes. The solution was developed with a “nature experience space,” says Fischer, in collaboration with the Schwarzwald Tourismus Kinzigtal association.
Since the sights in Lauterbach are distributed throughout the city along Sulzbach and Forenbühl, everything needs to be shown in a central location. “Must see people: What’s in Lauterbach; you can work up an appetite here,” Fischer said. For example, the mills, themed hiking trails, yoga paths or the art of Wilhelm Kimmich are shown and explained in detail.

Shows a steel Lauterback outfit. Two figures are suitable for taking a picture with them – visitors can lay their heads. “We have Schapel instead of Bolenhat”, emphasizes Dagmar Fischer. A larger picture shows a view of the Lauterbach. Next to it: a resting place. There you can relax with yoga – the stress of everyday life goes away.
Peepholes can also be opened. There the mills are printed and the visitor gets information about them. “This also lends itself to the teaching at our nature park school,” emphasizes Fischer. A lot of knowledge can be gained: among other things, you can learn that the Moosewaldmühle has 28 blades.
Next door, there is a charcoal kiln, climbing Kreuzfelsen and hiking trails in Lauterbach and information about nature.

One wall is dedicated to the art of Wilhelm Kimmich: there, guests can learn about the artist’s career and view a small selection of his works. The building yard, led by Jochen Fehrenbacher, showed its craftsmanship and created a seating area so that guests can relax to themselves.
The entire project was made possible by a Leader Grant. There was a subsidy of 80 percent, or 15,840 euros, for the facility, as reported by Julia Kiefer from the leader’s office in Schiltach. The municipality had previously invested around 20,000 euros for the renovation and barrier-free access.
According to Julia Kiefer, the leader supports projects that enhance the quality of life in rural areas, benefiting nature-based tourism or environmental and climate protection.
