According to the calculations of scientists of the US space agency NASA, a part of the SpaceX rocket could hit the Moon in early March. The trajectory of the “Falcon 9” rocket stage is currently being observed, a NASA spokesman for the German press agency said.
The rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral Spaceport in 2015 and brought the “Deep Space Climate Observatory”, an Earth observation satellite, into space. After that, however, the rocket stage didn’t have enough fuel to fly back to Earth, which is why it’s been in space ever since.

According to NASA, on its current trajectory, the rocket stage will hit the far side of the Moon on March 4. Earlier, many American scientists had drawn attention to this. SpaceX, Elon Musk’s private space company that works heavily with NASA, did not initially respond to a request.
NASA said it would not be possible to observe the impact live with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter probe. However, investigations are underway to determine whether possible craters can be analyzed due to changes and impacts on the Moon. “This unique event represents an exciting research opportunity.” Exploring the pit will be a major challenge and may take weeks or even months.
