Sony is giving a glimpse of PlayStation VR2 for the first time since revealing its controllers last year. Still no date.
Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed the design of the PlayStation VR2 headset. The virtual reality device, which has yet to announce a release date, is based on a design inspired by the PS5.
The cameras are clearly visible on the front side. Because unlike PlayStation VR, which launched in 2016, the new model has inside-out tracking. This means you don’t need an extra camera this time.
It was also important for developers to improve comfort. With this in mind, a lens adjustment dial has been added, giving users an additional option to adjust the distance between the lens and the eye. Wearing comfort also benefits from the fact that the PlayStation VR2’s design is slim and weight has been reduced as well – despite the integrated motor for headset response.
new ventilation design
In addition, the PSVR2 headset has been equipped with a new ventilation design. “When I first started working on the design for the PlayStation VR2 headset, one of the areas I wanted to focus on first was the idea of creating a vent in the headset, similar to the vent on the PS5 console, which allows airflow. “Our engineers had the idea of ventilation in the room to avoid fogging the lens while players were immersed in the VR world,” said Yujin Morisawa, SIE’s senior art director.
He developed several design concepts to improve ventilation. The final design shows that a small gap has been added between the top and front of the visor for integrated ventilation. Sony also refers to the many smaller PlayStation symbols that complete the design of the PS5 console and DualSense controller.
