Two years ago, a new era began for Deniz Almas in the German indoor championships for track and field athletes. With more than 60m wins, the Cal-born sprinter rose to the top at least nationally. At the time, all was well for Dennis Almas, who starts for VfL Wolfsburg. He crossed the finish line in 6.60 seconds as the winner. Now, two years later, they have hope for the precious metal again.

On Saturday, January 26 – the day after nearly two years – he will be only too happy to repeat this coup, especially since the title fight is taking place not somewhere in Germany, but where he and he celebrate his greatness. Were able in 2020 Victory is now the center of his life – in Leipzig.

Later in the Olympics, fifth place with the relay

Deniz Almas was able to record his first breakthrough this week – but without doing anything himself. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo he reached the 4 x 100 m final with the German relay and finished sixth there. For a few days now it has been clear that the result will be corrected and that the German sprinters are fifth in the Olympics.

Brit ineligible for positive doping test

The deciding factor was a positive doping test on a team member from Great Britain, which was found to contain traces of banned substances that promote muscle growth. The process went on for months. Italy had won the gold medal, with Britain finishing second ahead of Canada. The German season finished sixth with Julian Reuss, Joshua Hartmann, Deniz Almas and Lukas Ansah-Pepra. The island’s runners are now ineligible, so the Germans move up one place.

The subsequent disqualification of the British is not so insignificant, Deniz Almas already made it clear at the end of last year. The fifth is better than the sixth at the Olympic Games and is even more noticeable in the Vita.

Attending the Finals is Practically Compulsory

Deniz Almas’ full focus is now on his appearance at the German Championships. With the final (Saturday, 6.40 pm) practically mandatory, anything else would be a huge disappointment for the 24-year-old. But Deniz Almas, who has the season’s best time of 6.70 seconds, doesn’t want to be one of the eight runners who start and end under just seven seconds. He is aiming for a medal. He can even imagine doing a big coup again.

One hundredth of a second is greater than 60 meters

But the competition is strong and the time lag is minimal. One hundredth of a second often covers more than 60 metres. Nothing should be different this time too.

Title contenders in Leipzig include LC top team Thuringen’s Julian Wagner, who set a season best time of 6.58 seconds, and sprint team Wetzlar’s Kevin Kranz, who has a season’s best time of 6.59 seconds. LG Stadtwerke München and Lucas Ansah-Peprah and Owen Ansah, both hamburger Sportverein’s Alexander Askovic, are also likely to win medals.
