The first five Euro NCAP 2022 candidates were pushed into the wall!
In the first Euro NCAP crash test in 2022, the testing organization took on five candidates. Everyone except one vehicle received the highest award: five stars. The VW Polo and Taigo, Lexus NX and Renault Megane e-Tech impressed at the start of the year. Only the BMW 2 Series Coupe didn’t kill at the sight of the bull.
Sister models VW Polo and Taigo use the same technology and were able to convince everyone in line with new central airbags and a more powerful system for crash prevention.
The Lexus NX is structurally similar to the Toyota RAV4 and scored enough points to be awarded five stars in all tests – however, testers complained that Lexus did not provide all the technical information, as is actually typical.
The Renault Megane E-Tech not only received full stars, but also received a lot of praise. According to the testing organization: “Renault knows how to build cars that are not only attractive, but also clean and safe.”
Only BMW’s 2 Series Coupe missed the five-star rating in the first test of the year. Although testers confirmed good impact protection and decent safety for vulnerable road users, the autonomous emergency braking system wasn’t entirely convincing in demanding scenarios such as crossing and turning cyclists. In the end it was still a good four star.
