Bronze for Aline Hopley at the Junior World Championships

In early March, the Junior World Championships took place in Canada. Two athletes from Scheclub Gosau left for Switzerland.

The 41st FIS Alpine Junior World Championships in Panorama is history and has been great for Gosau Ski Club! Aline Hopley (2001) was allowed to wear the bronze medal in a combination of super-G and slalom. After Super-G, Aline was still ranked 24th and moved up to third with a strong run. She finished a very good 14th in the slalom.

Sarah Zoller (2002) also showed two very good runs in the strong giant slalom. She was the only Swiss woman to have a very good 15th place.

Athletes, coaches and observers traveled from Frankfurt to Calgary with about 80 luggage. From there by rental cars continue to Panorama. All three lived in an apartment. He dined with the entire team, which especially encouraged the team spirit. In the first few days, training programs were on to get to know the slopes and feel the snow. Even in Canada, the weather did not always go along, with frequent snowfalls. The race had to be canceled altogether. On arrival the temperature was around zero degrees, on departure it was -20 degrees. The program was very tight.

Sarah also had to go through doping control. The top three and five randomly selected athletes were screened. Soon after crossing the finish line, he was taken for a urine sample under observation.

By the time they arrived in Zurich, many pieces of luggage were missing. So some athletes had to wait for skis and stuff as they went straight to the next race. So it was a first to wait and see if the next flight would bring the missing piece of luggage.
