Fire hazard: Grape bike battery should be replaced

“Stop using your Grape bike,” says the manufacturer’s website. Reason: The battery is prone to fire. You can learn what customers need to know now here.

Manufacturer Grape warns its customers against using certain e-bike models. The reason for this is “potential safety issues related to some of our battery packs” according to the company.

Which models are affected?

The following e-bikes from the model family are affected by the warnings:

According to the press release, Grape Bikes has already contacted customers affected by the recall via email or app.

What should customers do now?

Customers who have an e-bike affected by the recall should

  1. Don’t use e-bike anymore,
  2. Do not charge the battery unit now,
  3. Disconnect the battery from the bike and
  4. According to the manufacturer, “Store the battery unit in a place that will not cause damage in the event of a fire.”

Customers who are unsure of the potential risk of fire and therefore would prefer to dispose of the battery rather than keep it, should contact Grape Bikes in advance. According to the manufacturer, email contact is best.

What will happen next?

The company is currently investigating security issues. If these are confirmed, all potentially defective batteries will be replaced free of charge.

There is currently no date for the exchange. Customers should continue to pay attention to the Company’s email and app notifications and follow the instructions contained therein. After the diagnostic phase is completed, the company will be in touch through these channels.
