Canada approves import of meat from Brazil

Containerschiff

Canada has approved the import of unprocessed beef and pork from Brazil. Brazil’s Agriculture Minister, Tereza Cristina da Costas Dias, announced this on a business trip to Canada last Monday and spoke of “great news for Brazilian meat processors”. It is expected to be able to deliver around €137 million worth of beef and pork each year to Canada in the future. Canada does not impose import duties on pork. An import duty of 26.5% applies to beef. However, there is a tariff quota from the World Trade Organization (WTO) so that a total of 76,400 tonnes of beef from Brazil can be exported to Canada without tax.

Discussion with fertilizer manufacturers

Da Costas Días also uses the visit to discuss the possibility of expanding its deliveries to Brazil with fertilizer manufacturers in Canada. In order for Brazilian farmers to further expand food production and contribute to the food security of Brazil and the world, the country needs an adequate supply of fertilizers. It is not only a question of securing the current level of procurement, but also of expanding it.
