Hundreds of Dutch students have left a skiing holiday in the French Alps after potentially poisoning them with knockout drops. Public broadcaster NOS reported that about 450 students departed from Utrecht, nine of whom suddenly fell ill while aprs-ski and five had to be hospitalized.

Affected people complained about tremors and memory loss, had to throw up or fell suddenly. These incidents took place at the ski resort of Risol in the French Alps.

France launches campaign to protect party-goers

According to the NOS report, the students suspected that intoxicants had been mixed in their drinks. Despite increased surveillance, further incidents occurred. Dozens of students have been affected on onward visits to the location recently, and a specific bar has been targeted, according to the broadcaster’s research.

The operator, however, denied the allegations that he was very concerned about safety and had provided the camera recordings from his bar to the police.

In France A nationwide campaign is underway to protect partygoers from knockout drops after complaints about incidents involving club and discotheque goers increased. Specially trained police officers are available on the hotline round the clock. In addition, clinics have been instructed to conduct a toxicological test for all people who have recently fainted. The possible traces of subsequent knockout drops cannot be traced.
