The career of John Regensburg defender Scott Kennedy seems like a fairy tale. With the participation in the World Cup, he is now fulfilling a dream.

Six years ago Scott Kennedy was still playing with Traunstein in the Landesliga, five years earlier with Ember in the Bayernliga. The Canadian central defender was drafted for Regensburg in 2020 through Austrian Regionalliga club Grodig and second division club Klagenfurt.
His performance there also pleased the coach of the Canadian national team, John Harderman. Kennedy made his international debut on June 9, 2021. This was followed by seven more appearances in World Cup qualifying. And Canada created a sensation there, at the World Cup in Qatar in winter.

“It is an indescribable feeling to achieve this massive success together with my team,” explains Kennedy, who turns 25 today, Thursday.
“I think he celebrated a lot, trained a little. He certainly isn’t tired of playing.
The use of the Regensburg defensive man at Hannover 96 on Saturday (1.30 pm, LIVE! on Kickers) is questionable as he will not return from the national team until Friday. “We hope Kennedy makes it on time. He didn’t play tonight,” John’s coach Merced Selimbegovic told Thursday. Kennedy was not used in the 0–1 draw with Panama.
“I think he celebrated a lot, trained a little,” Selimbegovic said. “He certainly isn’t getting tired of playing, but you shouldn’t underestimate the journey.” The SSV head coach wants to speak to Kennedy about his situation after his return.
