Thus: 04/01/2022 at 7:34 pm

According to the United Nations, guns in Yemen will remain silent for two months, bringing relief to hundreds of thousands of people. The planned start of the ceasefire coincides with the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan.

According to the United Nations, the warring sides in Yemen have agreed to a two-month ceasefire. UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg said it should start at 7 pm local time on Saturday. It can also be extended if all parties agree.

The ceasefire coincides with the start of the Islamic month of Ramadan.

Unilateral ceasefire announced earlier

Earlier this past weekend, Houthi rebels announced a three-day ceasefire and offered to convert it to a permanent ceasefire. Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday that it would not conduct any operations in Yemen during Ramadan. The aim is to create a positive environment for interaction.

A week earlier, Houthi rebels also attacked bases in Saudi Arabiawho retaliated with a counter-attack.

Famine is one of the biggest humanitarian disasters in Yemen

In 2014, Houthi rebels captured large parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa. Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has been conducting a military operation against the Houthis, along with other countries and an internationally recognized government. Sunni Saudi Arabia sees him as an ally of its Shia nemesis Iran.

According to the United Nations, about 380,000 people have already died in the conflict, and millions have had to flee. There is a dangerous famine that is particularly affecting the most vulnerable: according to the United Nations, nearly two million children under the age of five are malnourished. The United Nations speaks of the world’s greatest humanitarian catastrophe.
