In October 2021, Gil Ofrim claimed in an Instagram video that he had received anti-Semitic insults from a Leipzig hotel employee. Then the hotel employee was investigated for spreading hatred. Since there was insufficient suspicion, the investigation was closed at the end of March.

The video, in which Ofrim claims a Westin hotel employee instructed her to cover the series with a Star of David pendant, even attracted international attention. Ofarim was a guest on several talk shows and received support from colleagues and fan, Over time, however, more and more doubts arose about the veracity of the events described by Gil Ofrim.

For example, video recordings show that Ofrim was clearly not wearing the chain. There was also testimony that the singer threatened hotel staff with a video that would go “viral”.

Soon after the alleged incident, Ofrim posted this video:

Ofrim let the deadline pass

The Leipzig Public Prosecutor’s Office has now announced that Ofrim has not filed a complaint against the termination of the proceedings. Since they had allowed the deadline to expire, the investigation against the hotel employee has now been terminated.

A statement from the spokesperson said: “Proceedings against the hotel employee were closed by order of March 31. Mr. Ofreem has not filed a complaint, so termination is final.”

On the other hand, the case against Ofrim was not dropped: he is being accused of false suspicion and defamation. The district court of Leipzig has to decide in the near future whether the trial against the 39-year-old musician will be accepted. At this time it is not clear if and when the trial against Ofreem could be carried out.
