Austria adheres to gas sanctions and opposes Russia

According to Russian state media, Austria Accepted Russia’s condition that payments for Russian gas supplies be transferred to a Gazprombank currency account, which converts money directly into rubles. This is reported by the Russian news agency Tass, but gives the impression that Austria will soon pay for Russian gas in rubles. Accordingly, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehmer announced his decision on Wednesday morning.

According to Tass, a new deal with Nehmar was struck because Poland and Bulgaria reportedly refused to pay for Russian gas under the agreed arrangement. As a result, they are facing problems with the supply of this fuel from Russia. According to Tass, when Nehamer traveled to Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin assured Austria that “gas delivery would continue in full swing and delivery could be paid for in euros”. Tass’ misrepresentation of the latest announcements by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehmer caused a stir on Twitter.

Nehmar has already taken to Twitter questioning Tas’s interpretation of the message. He wrote: “Earlier, fake news of Russian propaganda spread here and there. Of course, OMV will continue to pay for gas delivery from Russia in euros. Austria sticks to jointly agreed EU sanctions and comma. ,

In this context Austria is to be represented by the Austrian oil and gas company OMV. Germany is said to have accepted similar terms, according to Tass. So far, there has been no official statement from the German government. Berliner Zeitung asked the OMV and the Austrian chancellor to investigate the information.

According to TASS, regarding the payment of Russian gas through the Gazprom account, President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that buyers “paid and will continue to pay in euros, exactly in units specified in the contracts”. At the same time, Peskov insisted that “the final payment to the seller, Gazprom, buying Russian rubles for these euros, will be fixed in rubles.”

Transparency Note: On Wednesday morning news broke that Austria was the first country to transfer money directly in rubles for Russian gas. Our research has shown that this representation is incorrect. We have updated the notification accordingly.
