From Munich you can fly to Canada with Lufthansa in a new business class. But the cabin and seats are not made by Lufthansa itself.
The Airbus A350-900 with the D-AIVC registration was renamed Munich on Friday (29 April) in Munich. Lufthansa is now shipping recently chartered aircraft from Avalon to its Bavarian hubs in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver in Canada – with a product that is new to the German airline on board.
In naming the aircraft, Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr said, “With a significantly improved business class on board, this aircraft also marks the beginning of the largest product modernization in Lufthansa’s history.” Lufthansa explains in a statement: “All seats have direct access to the aisle, can be quickly and easily converted into a two-metre-long bed and provide more storage space. In addition, passengers have a shoulder area There’s a lot more space.”
Only minimal changes in cabin
However, this is not the case Lufthansa’s own new business classWhich the airline had been waiting for a long time. Lufthansa-leased D-AIVC and three other A350-900s still continue to have cabins that previous operator Philippine Airlines had used on the aircraft.
Spohr had already announced in November 2021 that You won’t change anything in the configuration: 30 seats in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy and 241 in Economy. According to the CEO, only minimal design changes have been made to create the Lufthansa’s touch and feel in the cabin. In addition, safety equipment is also kept. “Everything else remains as it is.” There is currently no money for repairs.
Direct corridor access for all
“The business class is great,” said Spohr at the time. “It’s not as good as our own, which is coming in 2023, but better than our present.” So the cabin is a step towards greater comfort. This includes, for example, direct aisle access from each seat.
This will not be the only intermediate step before an all-new business travel class is introduced at Lufthansa. The first five Boeing 787s to be received by the German airline are also to be delivered. There is an “advanced business class” but not a full new product yet,
