In India, millions of residents are currently suffering from early heat wave and the temperature sometimes exceeds 45°C. Weather service chief Mrityunjay Mohapatra said on Saturday that April was the hottest in northwest and central India since the weather records began 122 years ago. The agency reported high temperatures of over 45 degrees at more than two dozen places on Friday, with Banda in the northern state the hottest place in the country at 47.4 degrees Celsius.

I Heat wave is likely to intensify in the coming days, with the temperature crossing 50 degree Celsius in the north, warned Mohapatra. May is usually the hottest month of the year.

According to local media reports, there is also a problem with electricity supply in many states. The trigger is an increase in electricity consumption, which has led to a shortage of coal. Intermittent power outages and water shortage occurred in many areas including Delhi. To clear the roadblocks, officials used additional trains to transport coal to the affected areas.

Such heat is generally not uncommon in South Asia. But it is currently knocking much earlier than normal in the region, where such high temperatures often reach only in May and June.
