Despite the sanctions, North Korea has apparently fired another suspected nuclear-capable missile into the sea. Several missile tests including ICBMs have already taken place this year.

North Korea has again fired a missile with a suspected nuclear capability, according to the South Korean military. The General Staff said North Korea fired a ballistic missile near the capital Pyongyang. The missile flew in the direction of the Sea of Japan (Korean: East Sea).

The Japanese Coast Guard also said that North Korea had “probably launched a ballistic missile”. It was not initially clear how far he had flown.

strict international sanctions

The latest North Korean missile launch comes a day after US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced that she would submit a resolution to the Security Council for approval later this month, if possible. Its aim is to strengthen sanctions against North Korea. With the draft resolution, the United States is primarily responding to North Korea’s test of ICBMs in March.

Current UN resolutions ban the largely isolated country from testing ICBMs and other ballistic missiles of any range that could be nuclear-armed. North Korea has conducted several missile tests this year.

“Warning” for the South?

In a few days, the new President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol will take office. He has already vowed to take a tough stand on the North. According to analysts, this could be a “warning” for Yun.

Just a few days ago, at a major military parade, ruler Kim Jong Un announced that he wanted to accelerate the development of nuclear weapons. He also threatened to deploy them if Pyongyang saw that its national interests were threatened and felt agitated.
