Tennis - Raducanu praises former coach Beltz: "a great man"

BERLIN (AP) – US Open winner Emma Raducanu later paid tribute to her former German tennis coach, Torben Beltz.

In an interview with “Bld am Sonntag”, the 19-year-old said “a great coach with a lot of experience, even at the top level, a great person, always positive,” and described the collaboration: “He reminded me that I Good job. Sometimes I need it when I’m doubting myself,” said the Canadian-born Brit. Beltz inspired him to “think positive”.

In late April, Radukanu separated from her German coach after nearly six months. She had said that she wanted to try another training model and was expecting temporary support from the British Tennis Association (LTA). She wants to “try a new system”, she confirmed in a “BMS” interview. Beltz also coached former world number one Angelique Kerber for a long time.

Radukanu also learned German for a year at school, “but none of them stayed with me.” He also learned something from Beltz. “Bad word with sh…” she revealed with a laugh. “Let’s take it: let’s go!”, he said again in German.

In Stuttgart he recently played his first clay court tournament with the pros, said Radukanu, who was out there in the round of 16. It will soon celebrate its premiere at the French Open. “I want to be good there, but it won’t be until later. However, who knows…” said teenager Radukanu while watching the Grand Slam classic in Paris.
