In Dingolfing, BMW begins production for a second line of electric motors and high-voltage batteries for plug-in hybrids.

“The BMW Group has reached a further significant milestone during the ramp-up of e-mobility at its largest European production site in Dingolfing,” the company said in a press release. According to the announcement, a second production line for electric motors has become operational at the Capability Center for electric drive production in the past few weeks. Production of high-voltage batteries for the latest generation of plug-in hybrids has also begun. This means that the Dingolfing Component Plant 02.20 now has the capacity to produce electric drives for over 500,000 vehicles per year.

According to BMW, the plant now has a total of 14 production lines for battery modules, high-voltage batteries and electric motors. A new production and logistics building is currently under construction, and a large high-bay warehouse is also being upgraded at a cost of several million euros. BMW Group’s investment in expanding e-component production at the site exceeds EUR 500 million over the period from 2020 to the end of 2022. “We see high customer demand for BMW electric models around the world,” said Dr. Marcus Faulbomer, head of engine and e-drive production at BMW Group. “Therefore we are accelerating the ramp-up of e-mobility and further expanding our capabilities across the global production network for e-drive components. Dingolfing plays a central role with the e-drive production capability centre. “ – PNP
